Personalize your very own MSU’s Spartan helmet to showcase your individual style and story through the “My Spartan Helmet” website to design your own or pick from finished designs provided by MSU.   

Just follow the rules below and MSU will grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable, revocable, limited license for you to use and display your very own “My Spartan Helmet,” strictly for your personal, noncommercial use.  MSU retains all rights in its trademarks and intellectual property and your use of the “My Spartan Helmet” design will in no case serve to transfer any MSU intellectual property rights to you. We also ask that you allow MSU to use your helmet design in communications and marketing materials.   

Rules 

For MSU to preserve the power of the Spartan helmet for future Spartans, there are some rules that apply to MSU’s license grant for use of “My Spartan Helmet.”  

You cannot use your “My Spartan Helmet” design in any of the following ways: 

  • In a manner that is derogatory, threatening, lewd, obscene, vulgar, discriminatory (on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc.), illegal, promotes hate speech, promotes violence, promotes an illegal activity, or is otherwise objectionable.  Whether your use is “objectionable” is up to us. 
  • In combination with any content, material, or element that displays any third-party advertising, slogan, logo, trademark, or representation of characters indicating a sponsorship or endorsement. 
  • Sell or otherwise earn any compensation from your “My Spartan Helmet;” this includes, but is not limited to, use in advertisements, posting in media that promotes commercial items, or including apparel and non-apparel items. 
  • Promote or endorse any commercial venture, such as a local business, website, or service. 
  • Enter into any agreement with someone else to exclusively distribute your “My Spartan Helmet” even if they don’t pay you. 
  • Combine your “My Spartan Helmet” with MSU’s other trademarks and indicia, such as Sparty. 

If you do any of these things, we may tell you that your use of your “My Spartan Helmet” violates these rules and that you need to stop. We will determine, in our sole discretion, whether your use of the “My Spartan Helmet” breaks any of these rules.  

We may also use your helmet design in communications and marketing materials.  You agree and freely give your “My Spartan Helmet” design to MSU along with the unrestrained right, forever, to own, use, and alter the same, as MSU sees fit and for any purpose. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you also grant MSU the unrestrained right to use “My Spartan Helmet” in connection with the project’s advertising, publicity, promotion, and public displays. You understand that the any “My Spartan Helmet” that you design is MSU’s property to use or not use as it chooses. 

We hope you use your “My Spartan Helmet” to express yourself and show your pride in being a Spartan.
